Richmond Residence

A striking and contemporary extension integrates seamlessly with the original Victorian frontage.

This single fronted Victorian built-in 1900 has undergone a series of staged refurbishments to restore its charm that tired over time. With the overall building width just shy of 5 metres, and abutting neighbouring properties, the living spaces yearned for natural light. Demolishing the rear extension, a “saltbox” pitched roof open-plan kitchen and living was constructed. Generously dotting four skylights along with the northern pitch, and fully glazing the east facade, the abundance of natural light that bathes the space is unparalleled. With proposed Stage 3 works to encompass a rooftop terrace over the existing garage, the city skyline views will be breathtaking.

“We engaged DB Constructions to design and build a major extension to our Victorian terrace house in Richmond, which included an open plan living area, new kitchen, bathroom/laundry and a new deck.”

“The end result is everything we hoped it would be! It has resulted in an amazing transformation, turning our tired and cramped living space into a light filled, spacious and superbly finished home.  Everyone who has seen it has commented on how stunning it is and we couldn’t be happier.”

“David and Ella have long standing relationships with their various sub-contractors, which gave us complete faith in the quality of the workmanship and the care taken.  We were living in the front half of the house for much of the build, so we had the opportunity to engage regularly with the foreman and various trades throughout the project, as well as having regular on-site meetings with David and Ella.  This meant we could ask questions and discuss options as the project progressed and they were always very helpful and responsive.  We had complete visibility of the project costs and we received regular updates – this enabled us to track the project against our budget and make timely decisions at each stage.”
